Young adults countdown days for health insurancePosted On Thu, September 23, 2010
For a large number of young adults, September 23 cannot come soon enough. On that day, a number of major healthcare provisions are set to go into affect that day.
One major provision that many people in their 20s are looking forward to is the ability to stay on their parents' health insurance plans. Under the Affordable Care Act, adults up to the age of 26 can be on the same coverage plan as their parents.
There are a number of other provisions that will be going into effect in a couple of days, as well as a number of others that will happen in a few years. To help consumers sort through the time, a new website has been launched to educate Californians.
California State University at Northridge student Aaron Keshishian says that because of the ability to stay on his parents' health insurance plan, he doesn't have to chose between his education and insurance.
"Last June, I was informed that - although I was a full-time student - my parent's health insurance company was dropping my coverage because of my age," says Keshishian. "I looked into plans recommended by my college, but they were very expensive."
Recently, the government launched its own website aimed at providing consumers with a one-stop source to become informed about private and public health insurance plans.
