Winter Storm Euclid rages across the countryPosted On Fri, December 28, 2012
Just when east coast homeowners thought they had seen the worst of extreme weather events in 2012, Winter Storm Euclid raged across the northern parts of New England and left many residents without power.
The storm blew threw the Midwest, leaving 18 inches of snow in parts of Illinois, and continued on to Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine, according to International Business Times.
Homeowners in these areas could see severe property damage if they didn't prepare their homes before the onset of the storm. One hot-button topic for insurance providers of late has been ice dams, or the water that runs between layers of the roof and freezes again at the edge. If homeowners don't take steps to prevent damming, they could sustain significant damage to their roofs.
Some homeowners might see pipes bursting if they lose power and heat during the worst of the storm. One way to protect against this occurrence is to coat the pipes with foam protectors.
Property owners who do take steps to protect their homes could see the benefit of lowered insurance rates in the future.
