With 24-hour weather channels and mobile technology ubiquitous, it's never been easier to stay informed about the latest storm happenings. But after the upgrading of a weather application for the iPhone, it's become even more effortless.
Weather Decision Technologies, which recently released its iMap Weather Radio app for a variety of mobile devices, announced its been updates with hurricane emergency alerting technology just in time for what's believed to be an active year for activity.
"Meteorologists are saying this year's hurricane season could be very dangerous, said Mile Eilts, president and CEO of WDT. "With the [updated] app, they are getting early and location-specific warnings day and night about danger coming their way.
Forecasters from organizations like the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association say there could be as many as 20 named storms this year. The year's first hurricane, Adrian, formed recently in the Pacific. After a busy year for tornado activity, homeowners throughout the country may be reviewing their home insurance policies to make sure their plans include coverage for hurricanes.
