Virginia blaze sends three to hospitalPosted On Mon, February 21, 2011
A Virginia home is a total loss after an early morning fire sent three people to the hospital.
According to the News & Advance, Lynchburg firefighters were called to a local home at around 3 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, the house was fully involved. Fortunately, according to Fire Marshal Greg Wormser, the two people that lived in the house were able to get out themselves. However, the 94-year-old woman and her grandson were taken to the Lynchburg General Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The paper reports that one of the firefighters at the scene was also sent to the hospital, but all three have since been treated and released.
Wormser tells the paper that a preliminary investigation indicates the cause of the fire was electrical, as it appears to have started in a bedroom.
Because the home was a total loss, it's likely the woman and her grandson will find alternative housing with extended family members. However, depending on their policy, their insurance company may cover housing expenses. Policies and terms vary form company to company, however, and some insurance companies may require a policyholder to have a particular plan before covering expenses for temporary housing.
