Toyota recalls more vehiclesPosted On Thu, February 24, 2011
More recalls are in the offing for Toyota, but this time, they're voluntary.
According to the company, Toyota will voluntarily recall approximately 20,000 GS 300 and GS 350 all-wheel drive vehicles to fix the cars' floor mats, which can cause the accelerator pedal to jam.
"In the event that the floor carpet around the accelerator pedal is not properly replaced in the correct position after a service operation, there is a possibility that the plastic pad embedded into the floor carpet may interfere with the operation of the accelerator pedal," the company said in a statement.
Toyota also announced that it's amending its November 2009 recall by adding the 4Runner, Lexus LX 570 and RAV4 to the list. These cars have the same floor mat entrapment problem.
Under both recalls, owners will be informed of when they'll be taking place by first-class mail.
Toyota's 2009 recall was the single largest in history, and between 2009 and 2010, 8.5 million cars were recalled.
Though they're ordered to improve safety, recalls could also be an indication to an auto insurance company that a particular make or model is risky to cover.
