Tornadoes to affect Tennessee Valley, according to forecastersPosted On Wed, April 27, 2011
Mother Nature has been showing its violent side for the past several weeks throughout the country, and by the looks of it, it's showing no signs of letting up.
According to Accuweather, the Tennessee Valley is under a severe weather alert as a string of tornadoes are expected to affect the area.
Heather Buchman, a meterologist for Accuweather, said that the effects of these twisters could be devastating.
"If strong tornadoes like this hit any populated area, they could result in complete destruction," Buchman said.
Meterologists at Accuweather are also warning residents of the Gulf Coast and homeowners who live in the Great Lakes region, as damaging winds, torrential downpours, hail and flooding may occur as a result of the tornado activity.
Buchman urged residents in the path of these storms to seek shelter, stressing that mobile homes do not qualify as safe refuges.
Several insurance organizations collect statistics on the number of home insurance claims filed as a result of severe weather. Should the dangerous weather pattern continue, 2011 could be a record year.
