The year's costliest vehicles to insurePosted On Fri, February 25, 2011
Before consumers plunk money down on their dream car's latest model, they may want to take into account its auto insurance costs. And just in time, the list of the costliest models to insure has been released.
With the help of Quadrant Information Services, Insure.com has compiled a list of the 2011 vehicles with the highest car insurance rates.
At an annual premium of $3,543, the Mercedes SL65 AMG is the most expensive, followed by two BMW 750 models - the 750i and 750Li - which both run their owners about $3,280 per year.
The Mercedes model knocks Porsche off from the top spot, as last year, the Porsche 911 Carrera GT2 was $2,943, according to Insure.com. The Mercedes S65 and Dodge Viper were second and third, at $2,863 and $2,851, respectively.
Auto insurance companies take a car's model and make into consideration when assessing premiums. Earlier this month, the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration ranked auto insurance claims cost by model and year. Mercedes and BMW models were among the highest, but insurance claims were the most costly for the Maserati Granturismo.
