The Property Casualty Insurers Association offers hurricane preparation tipsPosted On Wed, May 23, 2012
While climatologists are predicting a fairly calm hurricane season, violent storm patterns can often be unpredictable. With this in mind, the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America is providing homeowners with some tips for what they should account for in the event they're impacted by a hurricane.
One of the most important things to do is to review one's home insurance policy. PCI says by looking at the declarations portion of the plan, policyholders will be able to determine the type of coverage they have so they can more easily navigate the claims process.
Looking over a home insurance policy well in advance of an impending storm is important, as it not only reminds policyholders of the insurance rates they're paying, but it also informs them about whether or not their plan is sufficient. PCI says policyholders should talk with their agent if they're worried their coverage won't provide for most of their expenses.
Finally, insurance experts say homeowners should develop an emergency plan. Among the things it should include is what the best escape routes out of a home are, where to meet should the family be separated and plenty of food, water and supplies should their evacuation be three days or more.
