Texas warns teen drivers about dangers of not wearing safety belts

Posted On Tue, February 14, 2012

The Texas Department of Transportation recently requested that teenagers take part in the state's pro-seat belt "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

The report noted that approximately 1,425 lives were saved by seat belts in the state of Texas in 2010. There were 291 drivers who were between 16 and 20 years old who were killed in motor vehicle crashes in the Lone Star State, with close to half of those drivers not wearing seat belts.

"A few seconds - that's all it takes to buckle up. In that same amount of time, you can lose your life in an accident because you weren't wearing your seat belt," said Carol Rawson, TxDOT's traffic operations division director. "TxDOT is committed to educating teens about the deadly effects of not wearing a seat belt."

Consumers who have teen drivers in the home may want to be certain that they are properly insured. One of the best ways to do this is to compare the child's current plan to other auto insurance quotes online. This could help the family not only get the most sufficient plan, but also ensure for low auto insurance rates.
