Texas to require vaccination for studentsPosted On Tue, November 8, 2011
College students in the state of Texas will soon be required to receive a vaccination for meningitis, and the shot is widely available, according to CVS' MinuteClinic.
The state's legislature signed a bill last year that mandates all college students receive the shot beginning in 2012, the company noted. The Lone Star State will be the first in the nation to require this type of vaccination. Depending on health insurance rates, the shot can cost as much as $147. Those who have to receive the shot must get them at least 10 days before the first day of the spring term, or within the past five years.
"MinuteClinic makes it easy for students to fulfill this vaccination requirement by making meningitis vaccinations available seven days a week with no appointment necessary and providing students the proper documentation to submit to their school," said Angela Patterson, nurse practitioner and MinuteClinic regional manager.
Consumers who know their health insurance plan does not cover the shot in full may want to compare health insurance quotes to find one that is sufficient. This could save a considerable amount of money that would otherwise be paid up front.
