Texas police pulling over more drivers for speeding

Posted On Mon, June 13, 2011

As the school year winds down and traffic volume ramps up, Texas officials have been noticing more motorists are being pulled over for speeding.

According to local television station KDAF, police in Grapevine - a suburb of Dallas - have ticketed approximately 700 motorists on the DFW Connector since they stepped up speed limit enforcement in May.

Brent Hastings, an insurance agent from State Farm, told the news source that one speeding citation can adversely affect rates for a while.

"If you have a ticket, understand that if you have a ticket it will take about three years before you can have any discount as far as your premium is concerned," said Hastings.

Texas is one of several states that offers motorists the option of taking a defensive driving course after being given a ticket. Successful completion may result in the citation being expunged from one's driving record. Any auto insurance rates that increased as a result of the ticket may lower as well.
