Survey: Nearly 80 percent of healthcare leaders trying to cut costsPosted On Mon, November 21, 2011
A recent survey from Surgical Information Systems noted that nearly 80 percent of healthcare executives are trying to lower costs during the perioperative period.
These executives are hoping to reduce costs regarding operating room fees, as there has been a 34 percent jump since 2010. One-quarter of executives surveyed noted they were worried about the ability to maximize reimbursements. This figure dropped by nearly 60 percent from 2010 to 2011. Nearly every executive noted that optimizing performance in the operating room is important. That figure grew by more than 7 percent in the past 12 months.
"The payment reductions facing providers over the next 10 years require healthcare finance leaders to move beyond cost containment strategies," said Richard Clarke, president and chief executive officer of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. "Instead, organizations need to improve efficiency by removing waste and duplication within the delivery system."
Consumers who are concerned about the cost shake-up may want to reexamine health insurance quotes. With the uncertainty of healthcare costs, they could force health insurance to increase.
