Summer riskiest time for young driversPosted On Fri, June 15, 2012
A recent campaign from BeSmartBeWell.com stressed that parents need to aid their children to become safe drivers.
The summer is considered to be the most dangerous time for young drivers to be on the road, the report said. Specifically, Memorial Day to Labor Day has more young drivers killed than during any other point in the year.
"Parents play a key role in preventing teen crashes," said Dr. Erin Sauber-Schatz of the CDC and one of the experts featured on BeSmartBeWell.com/Teen-Driving. "When asked whose opinions they listen to, teens most often said their parents."
The report explained that it is important for parents to keep tabs on their child's driving habits, and it is important to draw the line. Letting young drivers know that something is not alright can help tremendously. Parents should be clear that not wearing a seat belt and driving while distracted are not acceptable behavior on the road, and these actions shouldn't be tolerated.
Another way that parents can ensure their kids are protected when driving is to give them a strong insurance policy. Looking at various auto insurance quotes may go a long way in making this a reality.
