Study: Healthcare may change in hospitals

Posted On Tue, October 25, 2011

A recent study from Aon Risk Solutions found that due to recent reforms, the health insurance landscape in the United States could change dramatically.

The Hospital and Physician Professional Liability Benchmark Analysis discovered that approximately three-quarters of healthcare systems will self-insure themselves for malpractice risks in light of the current reforms planned to take effect in the United States.

"Hospitals are moving from volume-based reimbursement methodologies to outcome-based solutions," said Ron Calhoun, managing director and Health Care Practice leader for Aon Risk Solutions. "This requires a more integrated approach to care delivery to achieve the cost efficiencies necessary to compete in today's evolving market."

Some of the potential ways healthcare systems could avoid issues is to consider purchasing physician practices in order to cover what they don't have, as well as reviewing relationships with multiple special care systems in order to streamline the healthcare process.

While the current healthcare setup may be set to change, consumers should be proactive in order to ensure they are prepared for any variables. One of these ways is to make sure a person is properly insured. By obtaining multiple health insurance quotes, a person can select the best deal possible.
