Study finds link between promotion of wellness and efficiency at workplacePosted On Thu, January 28, 2010
A new study conducted by a subsidiary of Manpower Inc. has found that the wellness of an employees' health may have a direct connection to their productivity and competitive edge when in the workplace.
According to the study from Right Management, employees in a workplace where health and wellness is a priority were eight times more likely to be engaged in their work.
Employees at companies that promoted wellness also reported being 3.5 times more likely to be encouraged and creative while at the workplace.
Conversely, companies that did not properly encourage wellness in the workplace were found to be much less desirable place for employees to work. Organizations were four times more likely to lose workers if health was not properly prioritized.
"When thoughtfully integrated into overall strategy, wellness is a powerful positive driver of employee engagement, productivity and performance," said Owen Sullivan, executive vice president and CEO of Right Management. "In the recovery, success will depend on creating and sustaining a competitive advantage; this survey demonstrates wellness initiatives as an important key to building that edge."
While shedding light on what benefits one can have when not stricken with health issues, the report also demonstrated a good reason that employers should maintain acceptable health insurance coverage to keep workers healthy.
