Study: Driving while under the influence of marijuana poses risksPosted On Sat, February 25, 2012
Liberty Mutual and Students Against Destructive Decisions recently released a study which revealed that more young people may be driving while under the influence of marijuana than alcohol, despite the risks involved.
The study found that 19 percent of teen drivers have driven while under the influence of marijuana, according to the report. In addition, only 13 percent of the same group noted they have driven while under the influence of alcohol. Nearly 40 percent of those who have used the substance before driving noted that it had no effects on their driving capabilities.
"Marijuana affects memory, judgment, and perception and can lead to poor decisions when a teen under the influence of this or other drugs gets behind the wheel of a car," said Stephen Wallace, senior advisor for policy, research and education at SADD.
Due to some drivers using poor judgment, it may be a good idea for consumers to ensure they have the proper vehicle coverage, as the road can be unpredictable. One way to do this is to compare auto insurance rates to find the best one available.
