State Farm witnesses busy disaster insurance yearPosted On Tue, September 27, 2011
A recent report from State Farm announced that the insurer has already paid out $5 billion to customers due to the myriad natural disasters in the United States in 2011.
More than 970,000 claims were reported by the company so far in 2011, and this only includes those related to catastrophes. Beyond this, the insurer has had an additional 12 million claims unrelated to natural disasters.
"The unrelenting, widespread volatile weather continues to cause problems for our policyholders," said Brian Boyden, executive vice president for State Farm. "About 4,300 specifically dedicated catastrophe claim representatives have joined thousands of local claim professionals and agents at catastrophe sites across the country."
The insurance company has three claim centers operating in the United States in order to deal with the increased volume of insurance traffic due to the disasters.
Consumers who live in an area where disasters are not unheard of may want to look for improved insurance coverage. Comparing home insurance quotes may be the best way to achieve this, as it could help the consumer find the best deal.
