Sprinklers help save lives, homesPosted On Wed, October 27, 2010
A house fire can destroy a home, but there are things homeowners can do to help protect their investment. The National Fire Protection Association says that installing fire sprinklers can help save lives as well as personal belongings. Furthermore, having such a feature may help people save on their home insurance.
To help get the word out about sprinkler systems, the NFPA has unveiled a new campaign called the Faces of Fire. Personal stories of home fire survivors and first responders are shared through videos, photographs, and writings.
NFPA president James Shannon says fire sprinklers are well worth the investment.
"Home fire sprinklers save lives, protect property, preserve community resources and are affordable in new construction. They should not be considered optional in new homes," says Shannon. "It is our goal that states across the country require lifesaving home fire sprinklers in new construction."
There are things homeowners can do when looking to purchase coverage and save money. Many insurance companies offer discounts to those who have multiple policies. Safety features in addition to sprinklers, such as security systems, can sometimes help lower costs.
