Some states struggling with holiday traffic violations

Posted On Fri, July 6, 2012

The National Coalition for Safer Roads reported that four states have a significant amount of red light violations occur during the Fourth of July holiday, which makes it a very dangerous time to be on the road.

The report explained that California, Florida, Maryland and Texas had the highest percentages of drivers who ran red lights during this holiday in 2011 compared to the next largest holiday. California had 42.6 percent more violations during that point than during the Super Bowl that year. In addition, Florida had 39 percent more violations, Maryland 38 percent and Texas 37.8 percent.

"Drivers should be extra cautious on the roads during all highly trafficked holiday travel periods," said David Kelly, president and executive director, NCSR. "Statistics about red-light running and overall intersection safety make this fact more tangible and heighten awareness about the risks that dangerous drivers create for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians."

Those who have to be on the road during summer holidays may want to reexamine their auto insurance policy, as the chances of being in an accident elevate, even if they are a safe driver. Comparing auto insurance quotes may give a person the opportunity they need to get the right amount of coverage.
