Some auto insurance companies take pets into accountPosted On Mon, August 24, 2009
Pets are an increasingly important part of many people's lives, so it only makes sense that some auto insurance companies will take this into account in the policies they offer.
Customers who take some time to shop around online will find that a growing number of insurers have been offering policies that will cover injuries a pet may suffer during an auto crash. This can be especially useful in light of the ongoing recession and the overall cost of veterinary treatments.
With this in mind, Edmunds.com also recently offered drivers a list of the top ten pet-safe vehicles currently on the market.
"It's in everyone's best interest for drivers to ensure that pets and their gear are safe and secure while on the road. The best vehicles for pet owners are the ones with plenty of room and pet safety features such as tri-climate control, fold-flat rear seats, rear back-up cameras, sliding rear doors, and side airbags," said Kevin Smith of Edmunds.com.
The website noted that 98 percent of dogs are unrestrained in moving vehicles and that 82 percent of dogs will travel in a car during their lifetime.
Among the most pet-friendly cars were said to be the Dodge Journey, the Ford Flex, the GMC Acadia and the Hyundai Tucson.
