Snacks important to AmericansPosted On Wed, January 11, 2012
A recent survey from popcorn maker Orville Redenbacher showed that while many Americans want to eat healthier when the new year begins, a significant portion give up a few weeks into the new year.
Many Americans would rather do things they consider unenjoyable than to give up on eating snacks, the survey found. Nearly 40 percent said that they would be fine with visits from relatives daily than to stop their snacking habit, while one-third of consumers noted they would risk being inconvenienced by weekly dental visits in order to continue their consumption.
Nearly 70 percent of Americans pointed out they prefer salty snacks, while 63 percent enjoyed sweet options, according to the report. Only 40 percent of those surveyed highlighted healthy options, while half preferred crunchy snacks. Another three in 10 Americans said they like savory snacking choices.
More than one-third of Americans said they would need someone famous to help them keep their resolution of eating healthy, while close to that figure said it would take sporting tickets to do it, the report added.
Consumers may want to eat healthy in order to curb unexpected trips to the dentist or doctors office. Overeating combined with a sedentary lifestyle can increase a person's premiums or their health insurance rates.
