Small changes can lead to healthier livesPosted On Wed, November 24, 2010
Living a sedentary lifestyle and consuming a diet full of fats and oils can lead to several costly conditions. High blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes are just a few ailments that one can be diagnosed with as a result of one's choices.
UnitedHealth health insurance notes that there has been an increased number of diabetes diagnoses recently. The insurer says, however, that lifestyle changes can turn that trend around.
UnitedHealth Center for Health Reform and Modernization senior vice president Dr. Deneen Vojta says there are actions people can take earlier on to prevent the disease from progressing.
"Because diabetes follows a progressive course, often starting with obesity and then moving to pre-diabetes, there are multiple opportunities to intervene early and prevent this devastating disease before it's too late," says Vojta.
Swapping out chips and cookies for carrot sticks may not sound appealing to some at first. However the simply lifestyle modification can turn out to be life-saving in the end. Furthermore, people can also save money on insurance coverage by being healthier.
