Singer to donate proceeds for diabetes researchPosted On Wed, October 13, 2010
Being diagnosed with diabetes can be a shocking experience for many people. Type 2 diabetes has been associated with unhealthy diets and obesity. However, the cause behind type 1 diabetes appears to be less clear.
To bring awareness and funds to diabetes awareness, singer Nikki Lang is donating proceeds from iTunes downloads of her song "Feel Better." Lang was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 10. She says that she decided that she wasn't going to let the condition stop her from pursuing her goals.
"Diabetes is just a fact of who I am. I know there are millions of others out there like me, who are coming face to face with diabetes either as kids or as adults," says Lang. "My message to them is that together, we can put a stop to this disease."
Those with diabetes frequently face higher life insurance premiums as a result of the condition. While there aren't many risk factors associated with type 1 diabetes, according to the Mayo Clinic, there are several with type 2 diabetes. One can reduce the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by making sure to maintain a healthy weight and get enough exercise.
