Salmonella sickness can be life-changingPosted On Tue, August 31, 2010
Death isn't something most people like to think about, let alone their own. However, making sure loved ones will be taken care of in the event of one's own death is important.
Sometimes it isn't until someone is near death that they realize just how fragile life can be. Even something like eating food contaminated with salmonella can cause someone to die, despite the fact most people only become mildly ill if they come in contact with it. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that approximately 400 people die a year from salmonella.
Barbara Pruitt's system became so damaged from salmonella that she almost lost her life last year, reports CNN. Pruitt was so ill, part of her intestine had to be removed.
"It's very hard to talk about it and to hold back tears," Pruitt told CNN. "If I can stress anything to anybody, I cannot believe how my life changed."
Those who think they may be ill from salmonella should seek medical attention. In most cases, sickness from salmonella clears up within a few days.
