Resolution passed to protect role of insurance producersPosted On Mon, August 30, 2010
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners recently passed a resolution aimed at preserving the role of insurance professionals, while standards for the deployment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are created.
The NAIC believes health insurance agents are critical to consumers and companies making informed decisions regarding their insurance plans. The resolution ensures insurance professionals will continue to be compensated for their work, and that federal and state legislators recognize their opinions when considering new laws and policies.
As health plans change in accordance with the PPACA, agents and other certified insurance professionals will play a critical role in helping customers adjust.
"Significant changes for health plans under the PPACA precipitate the need for clarity and guidance by licensed, specially trained insurance professionals," Jane Cline, NAIC President and West Virginia Insurance Commissioner, said. "The continuing role of producers in the health insurance transaction is an essential part of protecting consumers during this transition."
OnE aspect of the PPACA that some customers may need explained to them is the criteria for companies with fewer than 25 employees to offset the cost of their insurance.
