Radon a real concern for homeownersPosted On Mon, January 9, 2012
The U.S. Department of Environmental Protection recently announced that consumers should be wary of radon during National Radon Action Month.
The government organization suggested that all American homes get tested for radon, no matter the age of the establishment or if it has a basement or not, according to the release. If the radon level in the home is above 4 Picocuries per liter, it is important to get the home fixed. Home radon repairs are typically not expensive and can be quite useful.
Radon is deadly and is a significant cause of lung cancer, the release noted. The radioactive gas enters the home through the foundation, as well as other holes in the house. It is due to uranium in the soil, as well as in underground rocks and water. Newer construction options can cut down on radon.
Homeowners may want to check to ensure their home is safe from such items. In addition, it may be a good idea to compare home insurance quotes if they are not confident their aging home is covered for such issues.
