Proposal could give more reasons than ever to get health insurancePosted On Thu, September 10, 2009
Americans may have more reasons than ever to invest in health insurance policies if one current proposal before Congress becomes law.
Both houses of Congress are currently weighing a variety of different healthcare proposals, some of which have proven controversial in recent weeks.
An Associated Press report says that one of the more recent proposals is to fine Americans who do not purchase health insurance policies. According to the wire service, the proposal would impose fines of $750 per year for individuals and $1,500 for families.
Those making three times more than the federal poverty limit would face even strong fines, at $950 per individual and $3,800 per family.
The proposal would be similar to one already implemented in Massachusetts, a policy that has not been without its own measure of controversy.
Whether or not the fines become part of an overall health insurance reform bill, Americans already have many reasons to invest in a policy.
