President believes Supreme Court will support ObamacarePosted On Wed, August 17, 2011
President Barack Obama, whose healthcare legislation was deemed unconstitutional by an Atlanta federal appeals court, recently stated that he believes the Supreme Court will uphold his policy, according to the Associated Press.
If the federal justices follow existing laws and precedents set in regard to healthcare mandates and health insurance requirements, the president stated he thinks his policy will survive.
As the race for the 2012 presidential election gets into full swing, President Obama has embarked on a three-day bus tour throughout the Midwest to explain his plans for job creation and economic recovery over the next several years. However, following the recent Atlanta court decision, he also spoke about his hopes for the healthcare plan.
While the Southern court may have found the provision that all Americans carry some form of health insurance unconstitutional, a Cincinnati federal appeals court upheld the same mandate in June, the media outlet reports.
Obama said this contested provision is not unconstitutional because if it was not upheld, taxpayers would be responsible for paying the costs of emergency care for uninsured patients, according to USA Today.
