Poll reveals health care laws need further clarificationPosted On Thu, July 29, 2010
Despite all the discussions and abundant information available about health care reform and its provisions, many still lack clarification about what it all really means, a HealthDay/Harris Poll reveals.
The research found that over half of those polled were aware that the new law will allow adult children to stay on their parent's health insurance plan until they are 26 years old. Approximately the same percentage of individuals expressed that they understood that those who elect to go without health insurance will be fined.
Nearly 80 percent of people aren't aware that prescription drug companies will be subject to an annual fee, according to the poll.
"The level of ignorance and misinformation is sort of astounding," says Harris Poll chairman Humphrey Taylor. "It seems people are still reacting to the rhetoric, not the substance of what is in the bill, because they don't actually know what is or is not in the actual legislation."
Some confusion surrounding health care reform may stem from when the new rules and provisions are set to take effect. It would be wise for consumers to go online and visit government websites to get a clear breakdown of when specific new laws will be implemented.
