Poll: Patients worldwide not satisfied with their doctorPosted On Mon, July 18, 2011
While the price and availability of health insurance may be at the top of many individuals' concerns, so too is the kind of treatment they're receiving from their primary care provider, according to a new survey.
Polling companies Survey Sampling International and the Research Intelligence Group report dissatisfaction among patients around the world is high, with 44 percent saying their doctor doesn't spend enough time with them.
"Clearly, people are not experiencing the level of service and respect they see in other areans in their doctors' offices," said Chris DeAngelis, vice president of strategic services for SSI. "When we look across 23 countries, we see that only three in 10 patients rate the care they receive from their doctors as excellent - and less than half would recommend their physicians."
When asked what behaviors or actions would lead to respondents' opinions of their doctors improve, most wanted their physician to explain their condition or treatment more clearly.
While patients can change primary care physicians at any time, they may have to pay for treatments from a new PCP out of pocket, as some doctors may not accept certain health insurance providers.
