Poll: Nearly half of Americans want healthcare law repealed

Posted On Thu, November 17, 2011

A recent Gallup poll showed that more Americans are in favor of the federal government repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

In total, 47 percent of Americans are in favor of getting rid of the act, which was enacted by the Obama administration in 2010, the poll found. Another 42 percent were for the legislation, and 11 percent had no opinion. There was a 4 percentage point error margin in the poll.

The Supreme Court recently accepted the opportunity to hear a lawsuit against the act, which claims it is unconstitutional. The highest U.S. court is expected to make a decision by July of next year.

Despite the results seemingly putting down the need for a healthcare law from the federal government, half of Americans still think the U.S. government needs to makes sure its citizens need health insurance coverage, while another 46 percent disagreed with that sentiment, the poll noted.

Consumers may be uneasy regarding the future of health insurance in the United States and for now, finding the best health insurance rates may help put these consumers' minds at ease.
