Poll: Americans prefer more vacations to one extended furloughPosted On Tue, January 8, 2013
While there may be something nice about taking one big vacation to an exotic location, most Americans say they'd prefer taking multiple shorter trips if given the choice.
In a new poll conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of a major travel agency, nearly three in every four respondents said they favor smaller vacations as opposed to one big excursion.
This isn't to suggest that Americans have the money to go on more than a few road trips. The survey also found that, on average, the typical couple takes two leisure vacations each year, usually lasting anywhere from two to five days.
Vacations that involve road trips often put a number of miles on a car, but as a general rule, many Americans today try to consolidate their trips so that they can lengthen the life of their cars and save gas money at the same time. They may even be able to save on auto insurance rates as well. When renewing a policy, motorists should consider letting their provider know if their driving habits have decreased in the previous year. They could be eligible for insurance savings.
