Plastic surgery popularity on the rise despite recession, says surveyPosted On Tue, January 26, 2010
With young celebrities such as Heidi Montag trumpeting the fact they have had numerous plastic surgery operations to "improve" their looks, it should come as no surprise that the cosmetic surgery business has prospered, even during the recession.
According to a recent survey titled Growth Opportunities in the Global Plastic Surgery Market by Frost & Sullivan, both plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures have been among the most popular types of surgery in the business, posting one of the strongest procedural year-over-year growths for any surgical specialty.
"Boosted by rising income levels in developing countries, medical tourism, and growing cultural acceptance, plastic surgery is a critical segment for any company targeting the surgical market," said Dan Colquhoun, Frost & Sullivan's Vice President of Customer Research.
The research from the survey, which interviewed 753 people spread across 15 countries, will be used to assist hospitals in adjusting how they offer cosmetic surgeries and which ones are more popular than others.
While plastic surgery procedures may be gaining popularity and notoriety, those who are interested in pursuing a procedure may first want to check with their health insurance provider to ensure coverage, as many plans may consider the procedures to be cosmetic and not cover the costs.
If this is the case and a new insurance plan must be obtained, looking online to compare different coverages is the easiest way to achieve the lowest premiums possible.
