Personal health could be affected by lack of drivePosted On Fri, February 17, 2012
A survey from Harris Interactive and the American Psychological Association noted that many consumers have trouble motivating themselves to make a change in their lives, even though a majority want to do this.
The survey, part of the APA's "Stress in America" initiative, showed that 93 percent of Americans want to change their habits. However, while half of consumers noted their intention to improve their diet, and another 41 percent said they wanted to exercise on a daily basis, 27 percent noted they didn't have the willpower to do it. Another 26 percent said they didn't have time.
"Research shows that exercising your willpower in one situation may drain your self-control for other situations that immediately follow," said Dr. Steven Breckler, social psychologist and executive director of the science directorate at APA. "So, just like with physical exercise, it is smart to avoid taking on too much at once."
Consumers who need extra help improving their personal health may want to speak with a doctor. If a person lacks a proper health insurance plan, it may be wise to compare health insurance rates before making a decision. This could save them significant amounts of money in the long run.
