Pennsylvania nearing distracted driving law

Posted On Mon, November 7, 2011

The state of Pennsylvania is coming close to approving a distracted driving law which will penalize drivers from texting on the roads, according to The Associated Press.

The law was approved by the state's senate, and if enacted, will give those who are caught a fine of $50.

The law could theoretically lower car insurance rates for some consumers, as well if traffic safety improves accordingly.

"Pennsylvania will join 34 other states in enacting texting-while-driving bans - it's one of the most important things we can do to prevent needless tragedies," said Pennsylvania state Senator Tommy Tomlinson. "Texting is one of the most dangerous distracted driving activities that motorists engage in. When you text, you have to take your eyes off the road, you aren't paying attention, and the consequences can be deadly."

Consumers who are safe drivers may want to ensure that their car insurance rates are as low as they can be, but also may want to ensure their coverage is sufficient, as there are still many drivers on the road who don't pay attention and could cause hazardous conditions.
