Parents should take charge when their child wants to drive

Posted On Fri, November 4, 2011

A recent announcement from insurance company Met Life Auto and Home noted that parents should be cautious before giving their child the keys to the car for the first time.

When teaching children about driving, it may be important to ensure that the parents are driving safely, and taking precautions, the insurer said. In addition, keep driving lesson lengths at a minimum, stay calm behind the wheel and warn of the dangers regarding distracted driving.

"Fortunately, parents can make a big difference," said Bill Moore, president of MetLife Auto & Home. "Numerous studies show that learning good driving habits with a seasoned driver is a very effective way to decrease the likelihood of crashes and fatalities for teens. This is especially important during bad weather months, when good driving is of the utmost importance."

In order to give their child an extra bit of protection, it may be a good idea to ensure that they have the best coverage. This can be accomplished by comparing multiple auto insurance quotes, as sufficient plans may make parents sleep better at night.
