Orlando gas station charges nation's highest rate for gasPosted On Mon, April 25, 2011
At $4.30, Honolulu, Hawaii, carries a distinction it probably doesn't want - the city with the highest average price for a gallon gas in the country, according to GasBuddy.com. But that's a bargain compared to what gas costs some Orlando motorists.
Acquiring its information from the same gasoline-price tracking website, CNNMoney recently reported that a gas station near Orlando's airport is charging $5.69 per gallon - the highest cost of regular unleaded fuel in the nation.
When told by the financial news service that his station had the nation's highest price, Suncoast Energys manager Bob Barnes said, "I don't know about [that.] We don't check other prices."
While Barnes may not be looking at other stations' prices, motorists are, as demand for unleaded fuel has dropped for several weeks now due to high prices. And the price is leading to more people putting off filling their tanks up. According to auto insurance provider AAA, the company has received an 18 percent increase since March in the number of calls its received from people seeking roadside assistance after running out of gas.
