One-third of American adults won't get flu shotPosted On Mon, October 31, 2011
A recent report from specialized care company Select Medical showed that more than 30 percent of U.S. adults have no plans to receive a flu shot, even though those with chronic lung problems can put themselves at high risk by avoiding it.
Asthma, as well as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients are at higher risk of death during flu season, due to their conditions. It is important that these consumers take heightened precautions when attempting to avoid the flu, the source noted.
"At this time of the year, patients with lung diseases can take some common-sense steps to minimize their risk," said Dr. David Jarvis, national medical director for Select Medical. "For example, they can limit exposure to crowds, especially if they are aware that the flu bug has hit their area."
While it is recommended to get a flu shot, if a consumer does not plan on getting one, it may be wise to ensure that their health insurance is sufficient, as an unplanned visit to the doctor could occur. By comparing health insurance rates, a person can be certain that they will have the best plan for the money.
