Oklahoma policyholders' safety compromised by security breachPosted On Tue, November 27, 2012
The security of hundreds of Nationwide and Allied insurance policyholders in Oklahoma was compromised in a recent security breach, according to Insurance Journal.
The FBI is investigating an attack on the computer system used by the two providers that occurred in early October, compromising the safety of the personal information of 534 Oklahoma residents.
The compromised information could lead to the theft of the identities of the affected individuals, note Oklahoma authorities. The data that was accessed by the hackers included policyholders' names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and more.
According to Insurance Journal, there is no evidence yet that the information has been misused, but Nationwide is offering affected customers identity theft protection and free credit report monitoring for one year in addition to the provider's low insurance rates.
