Oklahoma car insurance changes will have significant effects

Posted On Thu, November 3, 2011

A recent law in the state of Oklahoma will limit the amount of money that can be recovered by drivers without coverage in accidents, according to the auto insurance company Farmers.

The new law may prompt some uninsured consumers to rush to find low auto insurance rates, in order to avoid the new consequences.

Policy changes in the state will prevent those who are uninsured from receiving any damages for pain or suffering, but they will still be allowed to earn back the cost of damage, medical care and other lost income, the insurance company noted.

"We believe this new law will help stabilize insurance rates for all drivers in Oklahoma by encouraging more drivers to comply with the state's auto insurance laws," said John Lucido, state executive director in Oklahoma for Farmers Insurance.

For those who do not have car insurance, it is not only a bad idea to drive, it is illegal. Instead, it could be smart to compare insurance rates to make sure that drivers have adequate coverage in case of an accident.
