NICB releases revised estimate of Sandy-damaged vehiclesPosted On Wed, November 28, 2012
The National Insurance Crime Bureau recently released a revised estimate of the number of vehicles damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
According to the new estimate, about 230,000 auto insurance claims were filed regarding vehicles affected by Sandy.
The largest number of damaged vehicle claims stemmed from New York, where approximately 130,000 cars needed repair. New Jersey policyholders filed 60,000 claims, and the remaining 40,000 stemmed from the other states lining the eastern seaboard between North Carolina and Maine.
The NICB was careful to remind consumers that following a disaster of this kind, many car owners will be trying to get rid of their damaged vehicles. Therefore, any used car customers looking to buy a vehicle on the east coast should be careful to check for water damage.
Many east coast vehicle owners are concerned that the increase in damaging storms will affect their auto insurance rates, but providers have not shown any indication that this will occur.
