New program uses neuroplasticity research to help those with alcoholismPosted On Thu, December 31, 2009
Looking for results that could not only save lives, but also prevent events that could lead to spikes in health, life, and auto insurance rates, new attempts are being made to help those battling alcohol addictions get the help they need.
One organization looking to help those who may have a problem with alcohol is the National Institute for Alcohol Recovery, which recently announced it was launching a recovery problem called Stop Drinking 411.
According to its website, the program utilizes the "Regenerate" program that utilizes neuroplasticity research to re-train users' brain through audio programs that can be listened to on a computer or downloaded to an mp3 player.
Those running the program hope that its private nature, and its ability to be used at one's leisure, would entice people to seek help who previously may have been too ashamed to.
Finding a way to help those battling alcohol addiction would not only help to keep health insurance rates lower, but could also prevent against car accidents that could force one's auto insurance rates up as well.
A study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that of the 37,261 driving deaths that occurred in the U.S. in 2008, 11,773 of them were "alcohol-impaired crashes" that involved at least one driver or passenger with a blood-alcohol-content of more than 0.08 percent.
