Motorists reminded to be careful when driving during the holidaysPosted On Fri, December 24, 2010
With a couple of large holidays coming up, there is a predicted increase in road traffic. More than 92 million Americans are planning to travel during the Christmas and New Year's stretch - the majority plan to do so by car, according to AAA.
More motorists means an increased risk of distracted drivers on the road. Combined with the potential of poor street conditions, people can find themselves in a costly accident.
Zurich Services Corporation chief risk engineering officer Armand Fernandez says the holiday season presents a slew of situations motorists need to watch out for.
"In addition to the hazards that drivers must be vigilant of year-round -such as distracted driving behaviors, fatigue, and driving under the influence - the holiday season can bring additional dangers of wintry conditions and increased traffic," says Fernandez.
Being involved in a motor vehicle accident can result in higher auto insurance premiums. One way to reduce the likelihood of a collision is to abide by all road laws. Driving the speed limit and following all traffic signals can help keep everyone safer when traveling.
