Motorists and pedestrians need to watch out for one another

Posted On Tue, November 2, 2010

Anytime a person is out in the road there is a potential risk of getting hit by a motor vehicle. However, the likelihood of an accident is higher at some times than others.

Allstate auto insurance recently reviewed claims data and found that in California, the number of people hit by cars increases 25 percent on Halloween in comparison to the rest of October.

San Diego Allstate agent Brook Daly says motorists and pedestrians should be extra careful this Halloween.

"Because this Halloween falls on a weekend, there may be even more kids and cars on the road late at night, potentially creating a dangerous situation," says Daly. "Whether driving or walking with kids during trick-or-treating, it's important to remain alert."

Furthermore, the car insurance company says it's important for those on foot to pay attention for cars as well. Motorists and walkers alike should put down their phones and be careful of their surroundings.

Such findings highlight the importance of life insurance. A fatal accident can happen at any time doing even the most mundane task.
