Michigan auto insurance proposal opposed by some lawmakersPosted On Wed, October 26, 2011
A group of lawmakers in Michigan's House of Representatives recently announced their displeasure with a new proposal that would alter accident coverage for those with auto insurance, according to The Associated Press.
Currently in the Wolverine State, there are no caps for medical benefits for those who get into a car accident. This is the only state in America that still does this, the news source reported. The new proposal would give drivers the choice between multiple options ranging from $500,000 to $5 million.
But opponents think that this could hurt many people who end up purchasing low-priced insurance policies, as they may not have enough insurance, overall, according to the news source. In addition, the new plan may not result in rate reductions.
Consumers who are concerned with rate hikes or significant insurance changes may want to look for the lowest auto insurance rates possible, as this could help in the long-run if the person's state of residence forces rates up.
