Massachusetts drivers get new insurance discountPosted On Thu, June 10, 2010
Motorists in Massachusetts can now get a new discount on their auto insurance if they just go through a little bit of training.
The Hanover says it will give Bay State drivers a discount if they take a special course in crash prevention skills and safe driver techniques. The program, which is run by In Control Crash Prevention Training, is the only one certified in the state and can reduce crashes by 70 percent among participating drivers.
"This intense and highly-effective training will benefit our policyholders and help make our Massachusetts roads safer for everyone," said Edward Ruhl, a regional vice president at The Hanover Insurance Group.
The company said that those who are insured by the company, as well as their family members, will receive a discount of $100 off the price of the training, which is normally $299.
The training program teaches highway speed emergency maneuvers that many drivers are not prepared to handle, and participants learn defensive driving techniques, steering and speed control.
A recent report from Marketwatch said that Massachusetts has the most affordable auto insurance per household in the country.
