Maryland governor seeks to bring more electric cars to the statePosted On Wed, January 26, 2011 If one lawmaker is successful with the agenda items he's laid out for the upcoming year, Maryland residents can expect to see an influx of electric cars in the coming years.
Governor Martin O'Malley's plan to introduce the usage of more electric cars is part of a broad economic plan aiming to stimulate Maryland's economy by adding jobs.
In a statement released by the governor's office, O'Malley said, "Our legislative agenda focuses valuable resources on job creating initiatives, and harnesses Maryland’s competitive strengths to make this new economy ours.”
According to the Associated Press, O'Malley plans on bringing greater electric car use to the Maryland area by forming an electric vehicle infrastructure council, which should help make the transition to electric vehicles in local communities more seamless.
While many insurance companies offer discounts to fuel-efficient cars, that's not always the case. Among a variety of factors, auto insurers determine rates by assessing risk. If an electric vehicle doesn't have a safe vehicle history - or the vehicle is so new to the market that no studies have been performed on it - they're unlikely to offer discounted rates.
