Many drivers on the roads are distractedPosted On Tue, November 22, 2011
A recent poll from auto insurer PEMCO Insurance found that close to one-third of drivers in the Portland, Oregon, area are driving while distracted, which may be reflective of the national trend.
One-third of the driving population is speaking on cell phones while on the road, while approximately one-quarter of area drivers are using email or texting applications while traveling, the poll found. Close to half of Portland consumers reported being furious they have to share the road with these people. The fine for texting while driving in the state of Oregon is $142.
"Distracted-driving laws are becoming common across the U.S., and for good reason," said PEMCO spokesperson Jon Osterberg. "Distracted driving is dangerous, and while our poll results show that most drivers agree, we need to raise awareness to help lower the number of drivers who are focused on their phones rather than on the road."
Due to the threat of getting into an accident with someone who is not paying full attention of the road, it may be important to compare auto insurance quotes to find the plan that will ensure as good of coverage as possible.
