Many Americans trying to be more energy efficientPosted On Thu, March 22, 2012
A recent poll from Harris Interactive showed that more Americans are working to make their home more energy friendly, but some still lack easy fixes.
More than eight in 10 Americans ensure that items are turned off when not being used, while close to 60 percent try to use fluorescent light bulbs, according to the Harris Poll. Another 56 percent of Americans use power strips and 55 percent noted they look for Energy Star labels on appliances before making a purchase.
However, only 37 percent of Americans have a programmable thermostat and less than 30 percent have faucets with flow control or energy efficient windows, the report showed. In addition, only 34 percent have sealed gaps around pipes and wiring. Only one in 10 Americans have made a home energy audit for their home.
Another way to save money could be to get a less expensive home insurance plan than what a homeowner currently possesses. This could be made easier by comparing low home insurance rates to find the best plan for their situation.
