Many Americans concerned about global warming, disastersPosted On Tue, February 21, 2012
Environment America recently released a report showing that approximately 80 percent of Americans live in areas which have experienced disasters in the past six years.
More than 2,400 weather disasters have occurred in the United States, and this affected more than 242 million people, according to the report. Specifically, in 2011 there was 14 disasters which caused more than $1 billion in damage each. The year witnessed a total of $55 billion in damage.
"Millions of Americans have lived through extreme weather causing extremely big problems for our economy and our public safety," said Nathan Willcox, Environment America’s federal global warming program director. "Given that global warming will likely fuel even more extreme weather, we need to cut dangerous carbon pollution now."
Consumers who are concerned about bad weather may want to ensure their home insurance is up to date. While disaster insurance is typically separate, it is a good idea to make sure that coverage is as sufficient as possible. By comparing home insurance rates, a person may find what they are looking for.
